progress on this includes:
- attached the back and the yoke; did the yoke with wonky little panels for reinforcement(?), as it's not double-layered, and for a fun symmetrical piecing moment
- attached fronts to back at shoulders (not pictured)
- constructed a collar and collar stand and arranged Leafs upon it
- started hand stitching down leafs. it would be more elegant to do this before assembling the collar, but i can't visualize how both the seam allowances and the crease in the collar work + the tulle is itchy if misplaced
have yet to do sleeves, side seams, finishing hand stitching on collar, attaching collar, sleeve plackets (on tulle??), cuffs, Buttonholes (evil to me)
Shirt's done except for finishing the collar handstitching & touching up some of the buttonholes (used a friend's fancy machine with varying success). Lots of things wrong with it that are hard to see from more than three feet away
No pictures of it on me because I have yet to obtain a suitable layering piece which is a really funny problem to have!
buttons!!!!!!
Finished the collar! If you want to make embroidery you cut out of some tulle look like it is On There For Real this is what I did
- roughly cut out and place embroidery. baste with glue stick (glue sticks to the back of the embroidery and not the tulle)
- tack it down with a color matched running stitch (or whatever) along the stems and centers
- cut off more tulle from the edges with tinier scissors
- tack down the edges. with, in this case, a different thread color, do a faux chain stitch where you grab the very end of a stitch from the extant embroidery
- like so
this has the benefit of kind of squashing down any tulle that didn't get trimmed
and now it moves with the fabric and doesn't stick up at the edges!
Oh dear.
So as some of you may know, I love to point and laugh at bad legal arguments. And as fun as legal dumpster fires are when they are made by people who aren’t lawyers but think this whole “law” thing seems pretty simple, it’s even funnier when an actual, barred attorney is the person dumping gallons of kerosene into the dumpster.
And oh boy folks, do I have a fun ride for y’all today. Come with me on this journey, as we watch a lawyer climb into the dumpster and deliberately pour kerosene all over himself, while a judge holds a match over his head.
Part two! My apologies for the accidental cliffhanger.
When we left off, a second attorney had just entered the picture, a Mr. "Steven Schwartz." However, I had recognized his name from somewhere...
Some brief updates (nothing too exciting):
Another update to end the week, including an answer to the question that was left dangling as of the last update: was it just an oversight that LoDuca was not granted an extension of time to file his supplemental written response, when Schwartz and the law firm were granted an extension to file their written responses?
Good evening! Just in time for the Court's order for sanctions to issue, I have finally finished writing my thoughts on the June 6 filings by the Professional Responsibility attorneys on behalf of LoDuca et al. There is a lot of content in these filings, so I’m not going to go line by line; I’m just going to hit on the points that interest me. As always, you can read the full filings on CourtListener.
Also, like Part 1 and 2, I will be hitting tumblr's images limit, so this is June 6: Part i of iv.
The June 6 filings: Part ii of iv! I have finished my digression explaining what Circuit Courts are. Returning to the problems with Schwartz’s narrative about his Fastcase access:
The June 6 filings: Part iii of iv! We have finally finished reading the affidavits of LoDuca et al., and are just about to start reading the Memorandum of Law submitted by the Professional Responsibility attorneys.
The June 6 filings: Part iv of iv, hooray! When we left off, the memorandum had just finished its description of the relevant factual background. It now makes its legal argument, starting with the argument that to impose sanctions, the Court must find subjective bad faith, and that LoDuca et al. did not act with subjective bad faith.
This week I am very happy to present a collaboration comic with my friend Chrissie, who has been generous in sharing with me her experiences of gender dynamics in a technical field, and then helping me craft them into a comic narrative.
Whenever I see Chrissie’s work I’m always impressed at the cool, creative things she does. When we were discussing this comic, she told me: “I find men persistently try to direct me lots now too, which is probably the biggest problem I consistently run into”, and my feelings around that fact are a terrible and familiar blend of frustration, sadness, and lack of surprise.
When we talk about the differences in how men and women are treated professionally, especially in technical fields, we are often dismissed with ‘everyone has to deal with that’, or ‘women need to demonstrate more confidence with their skills’, or ‘they’re just trying to be helpful’, or ‘it’s all in your head’.
It’s frustrating when we know something like this is happening, but we spend so much of our time actually trying to get people to believe that it’s a real phenomenon. I find narratives like Chrissie’s validating in that she has a comparative set of experiences and is like ‘oh yeah, people totally think I’m less competent at my job now. it’s totally a thing’. So, can guys just believe us already and get on helping it not happen?
I work as a vet tech at an exotics clinic, since transitioning to male i get AT LEAST half as many questions as i use to from clients. Our older male clients specifically who could spend 15 min grilling me about the info i was giving them, dont give me shit anymore!!! I tell them their bird has x going on and the treatment is y/z, and theyre like “okay, thank you sir”
Intead of the “well, did the DOCTOR say that? I want his opinion.” Kind of shit
Maybe I’m too autistic for that, but I literally cannot grasp what the fuck must be going on in the heads of people who use services of a professional, THEN start doubting their qualifications/thinking that they know more about this field, and yet still fucking proceed to use said services.
Like, if your prejudices make you see other people as incapable of performing their work, maybe have the courtesy to Fuck Right Off?
